For this weeks game review Monday, we’re going to be looking and discussing some key aspects of: Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning!
While this game might not of had a big explosion in popularity on release day, this game is one of the best games I’ve actually played in a long time! Let’s dive into this shall we?
First things first, I’d like to explain the combat system of this game to you. For those of you that have played any of games in the Fable series, this game has a very fluid and dynamic combat system and survival depends greatly on dodging and blocking. The game allows you to wield the powers of a magician, rogue,a warrior, or even any combination of the three. Each of the three styles of fighting have the capability to use a wide variety of weapons as well.
Let’s break down each class:

Now, the warrior is a strong, plate wearing class, that charges into combat dealing large damaging blows but is very vulnerable to magic attacks. The warrior is a slow bulky class, so if you decide to play him, you may need to carry a lot of potions!
The rogue is the stealthiest class of the three. They allow you to sneak behind targets to deliver a devastating sneak attack, or to sit back at range and unleash rapid volleys with a bow. Although the rogue is mobile and agile, they wear a medium armor, therefor receiving greater damage from all sources.
The magician is a powerful ranged caster that can unleash powerful attacks from the elements. While powerful at range, a agile enemy can easily run up and dish out a fair amount of damage to the magician. The magician wears the lightest of all armor but, if played correctly can deal the most damage to enemies and can usually kill their opponent before they even get the chance to blink!
Talent System

The talent point system if very similar to that of World of Warcraft. The more talent points you have in a specific talent tree, the better the unlocks you get from it! You have three talent trees to choose from:
- The first talent tree is your Might category. This is your warrior talent tree, it holds all weapon proficiency’s for your long-swords, hammers, and great-swords. But not only that, it allows you to unlock the abilities Harpoon, Quake, Wrath, Relentless Assault, Battle Frenzy, and War Cry.
- The second talent tree is your Finesse tree. This one is your rogue / archer tree. It holds your proficiency’s for longbows, daggers, and faeblades. It also holds the spells: Smoke Bomb, Shadow Flare, Gambit, Frost Trap, Blade Honing, Lung, and Envenomed Edge.
- And your last tree, Sorcery. This, just like the others, hold proficiency’s for scepters, staves, and Chakrams. It also holds the spells, Summon Faer Gorta, Healing Surge, Elemental Rage, Sphere of Protection, Mark of Flame, Meteor, and Storm bolt.

Now the question a lot of you may have may be, “Is this game open world?” Reckoning has quest hub areas to say. Each area is for a specific level which by just doing the quests in the area you are in will make you the appropriate level for the next area. The game is open world, the only restraint is being under leveled and not being able to receive quests from a certain area because of your level.
The item system in the game is also a lot like that of World of Warcraft. You have white -common,Green-uncommon,Blue-rare,Purple-unique and gold-set piece. Each item also has a chance to have a random enchantment added to it, in example, extra damage as fire, frost or electricity.
There aren’t many things that I dislike about this game but here are a couple of things that I cam across that – irked – me. It drives me crazy that in the beginning of the game just about all of the armor looks the same for specific classes and most of the armor looks pretty ugly. To top it all off, there’s only a few armor sets you can get for each class. * 4-5* :[ I also don’t like the fact that you can become easily overpowered and at any point of the game you can become near invincible if you carry a lot of potions with you no matter what class you are.
Overall, I really enjoyed the dynamics of this game and all it brought to the table. I would really reccomend this game to those of you who enjoyed playing Fable or any other action RPGs. Don’t overlook this title, it definitely contends with the other big titled games out there.
