Recycled Computer Mechanics Ring by StudioLaTouche

I’m a big fan of using found objects and up cycling. I’m not super environmentally conscious, (although there’s nothing wrong with that,) but I do believe that if you have materials and items that can be repurposed into something tasteful and useful, it’s better than throwing them away.
I love things that are organic, rustic, vintage, and post-apocalyptic themed. I create my own found object and post-apocalyptic jewelry on my Etsy site, Blastland. Hunting for new (old) objects to use is always fun. I’ve walked into the Idaho desert in January and plucked bullet shell casings out of the cold, muddy ground, excavated fossilized, opalized seashells and obsidian knapping, and scrounged through creepy abandoned trailers for rusty nuts and washers. Ebay is also a great source for transit tokens, keys, and other vintage items I can’t find on my own.
There are a surprising amount of geeky items created from found objects. I’m sure these artists enjoy hunting for their materials as much as I do, and have used them in extremely creative ways.

Upcycling translates well into steampunk items. With an abundance of old circuitry, typewriter keys, and metal components, it’s no wonder.

Just check out this awesome ray gun by Tinplatestudios. It appears to be made of brass hardware and would make an amazing cosplay accessory.

My keyboard is old. And not in a good way. This awesome steampunk keyboard makes old technology a good thing. Especially for someone like me who collects typewriters and does a lot of work (and time-wasting) on the computer. Perfect! You can see other redesigned keyboards in VintWerksEmporium’s Etsy shop.

Remember those black plastic dust jackets for your original NES games? I completely forgot about them until I saw this awesome necklace made from one! You can purchase one from PureSin to remind yourself of old days and good times.

As someone who had a lunch box growing up that had both Mario Brothers and Legend of Zelda on it, I love this top, with it’s billowy bottom and lace detail. GLACIERMILK has other recycled couture tops including Star Wars and Rainbow Brite!

I love the colors on this wire-wrapped pendant. It was made using a repurposed Pokemon marble featuring Abra.

I love vintage paper. Books, maps, old postcards… There is a lot that can be done with vintage paper items, as these next items demonstrate.

Even if you don’t watch anime, you’ve probably still seen at least one Studio Ghibli movie. AvantPrint creates beautiful screen-prints on antique paper, such as this one of Howl’s Moving Castle.

This Lady Death box by AtomGray is amazing. It features upcycled comics and a repurposed candy bar box as the base. I love the skulls and stud detailing on the edges.
