MASS EFFECT MARTINIS

Summer is here!  And what does summer mean to me?  It means having some drinks while I play video games.  And if there’s any game that makes me want to drink, it’s Mass Effect.  That Commander Shepard sure can put ‘em down.  So Melvin and I have been hard at work in the kitchen coming up with martini concoctions in honor of some of our favorite Mass Effect characters.  And by “hard at work,” I mean “drinking.”  So read on for some awesome martini recipes that will have you feeling like you just stepped into the Purgatory Bar.

Ok let’s start with Garrus Vakarian.  Garrus is quite the sharpshooter, an expert killer.  Only fitting that we find this martini recipe called the Tall, Dark and Handsome.  You will need:

Garrus Martini

• small amount of cocoa mix, for glass rim
• 2 oz. vanilla vodka
• 1 oz. coffee liquer (I used Kahlua)

Step 1: Wet rim of martini glass on a damp paper towel and dip into cocoa mix; set aside.

Step 2: Pour remaining ingredients into a shaker filled with ice.  Stir and strain into martini glass.

Step 3: Remind yourself that Garrus is a man and a half and full of poison.

Next up, Tali’Zorah.  What can I say, I love that curvaceous little mechanical genius.  This drink comes with an Emergency Induction Port.  Original recipe here.

Tali’Zorah Martini

• 2 oz. vodka
• 1/2 oz. blue curacao
• 1/2 oz. cranberry juice
• 1/4 oz. grenadine

Step 1: Combine all ingredients (except Grenadine) into a shaker with ice and then strain into a martini glass.

Step 2: Sink Grenadine to bottom.

Step 3: Don a purple helmet and never take it off.

KROGAN!!!!!!!! I’m not saying anything more than I love Urdnot Wrex.  And that I got this amazing beer martini recipe from here.

Wrex Martini

• 1 oz. Maker’s Mark bourbon
• 1 oz. Averna Amaro (I substituted with Jeremiah Weed)
• 3 dashes Angostura bitters
• 1/2 oz. maple syrup
• 1 orange wedge
• 3 oz. Guinness

Step 1: Mix bourbon and Averna Amaro in shaker with ice.

Step 2: Add 3 dashes of bitters and squeeze 1 orange wedge into the drink.  Discard the orange wedge.

Step 3: Add the maple syrup and Guinness.

Step 4: Shake and strain into martini glass.

Step 5: CRUSH DESTROY KILL

Next up: I love Jack.  Really.  She’s a tattooed, biotic, angry, thirsty for blood tough girl.  A much needed model for all of those females out there.  Her martini packs quite the punch.  Based off of this recipe.

Jack Martini

• 1 oz. gin
• 1/5 oz. dry vermouth
• 3 drops of hot sauce (I used Sriracha, which I think you all know by now I love love love it)

Step 1: Shake the gin and vermouth in a shaker with ice.

Step 2: Pour a few drops of hot sauce into the bottom of your martini glass.  I used a bit more than 3 drops.  I love pain.

Step 3: Pour gin mixture into the glass.

Step 4: After this is over, I’m getting laid.

And finally, dear Liara.  We have watched her grow up.  And now let’s drink to her honor.  Based off of this recipe.

Liara T’Soni Martini

• 3 oz. gin or vodka
• 1/2 oz. dry vermouth
• 1 tsp. Blue Curacao
• 1 tsp. lemon juice

Step 1: Shake together all ingredients in a shaker with ice.

Step 2: Strain into 2 martini glasses.
