Gotham City Couture

17 Jul

It’s finally here. The weekend we’ve been waiting all summer for. Everyone seems to be holding their breath about its release because we don’t know what to expect come the end of the film. Does he live? Does he die? Of course I could only be referring to The Dark Knight Rises which will hit packed theaters nearest you on Friday. Sadly I won’t be one of the fans anxiously waiting to see what will no doubt be an epic ending to an amazing trilogy because I’m moving that day (go figure) but that doesn’t mean that I can’t share some Gotham fashion with you so read on.

I know that some fans are not too fond of Anne Hathaway taking on the role of Selina Kyle (AKA Catwoman) but I’m actually pretty excited about it. Hathaway is one of my favorite actresses and I think that she has both the sex appeal and the acting chops to pull off the complex character of Selina Kyle rather well. No matter what version of Selina’s back story you look at the woman has some serious baggage. She also tends to be one of those characters that straddle the fence between hero and villain just so perfectly that you can’t help but love her. One thing is certain about Selina Kyle/Catwoman she’s got that feline like sex appeal down. You can get the feel of Catwoman’s look without the catsuit with a tight fitting black dress (maybe one that’s off the shoulders), a black (or purple if you want to channel a more old school Catwoman) vinyl waist cincher, and of course some feline accessories like the amazing Catwoman necklace below and if you’re brave enough a small pair of lace cat ears.

Of course we can’t talk Batman without putting some focus on The Dark Knight himself. I don’t really think that Bruce Wayne needs much of an introduction because I hope that you’ve at least paid some attention to the other installments in The Dark Knight Trilogy (if not you have homework). While I completely support anyone rocking full on Batman regalia from any era running around town it’s probably going to make people slightly wary of you. I have to say that there is a soft spot in my heart for the 90’s cartoon version of Batman because that’s a little slice of childhood and since there is more to play with fashion wise than the all black look of today that’s where I’m looking for inspiration. All it takes is a grey dress, a nice big yellow belt, and some amazing accessories, and perhaps a pair of combat boots to be ready to defend Gotham.
