So I bet you know what movie comes out today that Melvin and I can’t wait to see! The Well-Digger’s Daughter! Wait, I mean The Dark Knight Rises! In preparation for this epic almost 3 hour film, we need some hearty food. And there is nothing more satisfying and filling than meatloaf and mashed potatoes. Or should I say, Batloaf and mashed potatoes! So if you want to critique my attempt at a bat signal made out of meat and mashed taters, read on!
For this delicious meatloaf recipe taken from Alton Brown (who would make an awesome Batman villain), you will need:
- 1 lb ground beef
- 5 oz. frozen spinach, thawed and drained
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan
- 1 egg
- 1 1/2 tsp dried basil
- 1 1/2 tsp dried parsley
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
- 1/2 cup bread crumbs
Step 1: Preheat the oven to 400°.
Step 2: In a large bowl, combine all ingredients. Mix together well.
Step 3: Shape the meat into the bat logo.
Step 4: Place your bat logo onto a greased baking sheet.
Step 5: Bake for 20 minutes or until golden and cooked through. I realized afterwards that I could have spread the meat onto a baking sheet, baked it, and then cut out a bat logo. Feel free to try it that way if your molding skills are similar to mine.
Step 6: Spread some mashed potatoes onto a plate in a circular form.
Step 7: Place your bat signal onto the mashed potatoes.
Step 8: Step back and wait for the Dark Knight to appear. Or eat it up and go watch the movie.
