I am sad to say that on Sunday the world of comics lost a great man and legend, Mr. Joe Kubert. I was lucky enough to have the pleasure of meeting this amazing man at Comicpalooza back in May. He was a pure joy and was kind enough to take a free picture with our Melvin. It’s always tragic when one of the greats from any field passes away but I can say with confidence that this man will truly be missed. If you haven’t heard of Joe Kubert read on for some information on this wonderful man.
Mr. Kubert wasn’t your run of the mill comic book artist. He got his first job as a cartoonist at the tender age of 12 and never stopped (that’s around 73 years in the industry). His most notable accomplishments in the world of comics were his long term works on Hawkman and Sgt. Rock though he has drawn many characters over the years, primarily for DC. The most interesting thing about Mr. Kubert was that he was not solely focused on his own career; in 1976 he founded The Kubert School which focuses on cartoon and graphic art and has trained many big names in the comic industry.
While this is a very brief look at this man’s life and accomplishments I hope that it encourages you to look into some of the art that he’s done and the impact that he has made on the industry. So many will be in mourning over this wonderful man’s passing and I hope that he can truly rest in peace because I’m sure that he deserves it.

When he looked over at me and waved and gave me a huge smile … TWICE.. I felt so super proud of my own work. It was like he gave me the nod of approval. Very sweet man, he will be missed.
