I love exciting lunches. And I love pandas. So this week, Melvin and I decided to do a panda bento box! Bento boxes are the perfect lunch because they’re cute and compact. Also, if you’re on some sort of a diet, which I most certainly am not, it’s a great way to portion out what you want to eat for a meal. So if you want to spice up your lunch and make it panda-rific, read on!
If you have ever felt like bento boxes are too much work, this recipe will put your mind to ease. It is super simple, but will look amazingly adorable when you’re done! For this panda bento, you will need:
Panda Bento Box
- 2 sheets of seaweed
- cooked rice
- lettuce
- other food items to complete your bento (I used some chicken jhal frezi I had made for dinner)
Step 1: Place some lettuce on one side of your bento box. This will be a little bed of greens that your pandas will sit on.
Step 2: Take 1 slice of seaweed and cut 3 rectangular shapes out of it.
Step 3: Using the rest of your seaweed, cut out 3 little circles for panda noses, 6 half circle shapes for panda ears and 6 larger ovals for panda eyes.
Step 4: Scoop up some rice and form 3 egg shaped rice balls. Set them on top of the lettuce.
Step 5: Wrap the lower half of the rice with the long rectangle pieces of seaweed. Then adorn each little panda with a nose, ears and eyes.
Step 6: Place the rest of your lunch food in the other half of the box. I used leftovers from dinner, but you could put in a little sandwich, fish sticks, bamboo, whatever you want!
Step 7: Admire your precious pandas and enjoy your lunch!
