Avengers vs. X-men #11 (of 12)
Considering how Marvel is already pimping the new comics coming after AvX, it’s a safe bet that the Marvel universe will survive the onslaught of Cyclops Dark Phoenix. There is still one chance for Marvel to pull out some surprises, but the end so far is going pretty much by the numbers. I was a little surprised by the death of Chuck Xavier. Not so much in that it happened, but rather in how it was done. The death was a little ambiguous and it leaves the event not leaving a clear message as to if he was really dead or not. It doesn’t really surprise me that they killed him off though considering they seem to kill him off every time the X-men have a major event. The last time they killed Pro X off they blow off half of his head, so Marvel could probably write their way out of him getting flame raped. I didn’t hate this issue, but I was just disappointed at the lack of unpredictable plot developments for such a large issue. But, like I said before, there is still one more chance for Marvel to pull a surprise out of their hat. Maybe they’ll do something crazy, like kill off a character and he will actually stay dead.
Batman/Batgirl #0
Both sexes of bats are having their chance to show us their stuff in these zero issues from DC. Both issues are side stories that dive a little into each one’s origin. The Batman issue serves as a prologue for some Red Hood related story that will pop its head up sometime next year. The Batgirl issue is more of an interior look into what drives Barbara into being how she is. I was kind of hoping the Batgirl issue would contain a cure for paralysis, but it looks like the wheelchair industry will continue to thrive. I found both issues to be entertaining and worth my money, but only the Batman issue seemed to be important as to its relevance to the overall story. I have yet to find a zero issue worth getting beyond sheer interest and enjoyment, and these two don’t feel any different than last week’s. I’m still liking the zero issues so far, but only from my love of reading comics perspective. I would have much rather they just ploughed on ahead with the next Batman story, “Death of the Family.”
Also, in a shameless plug to myself, check out Bruce Osborne on Facebook. I post/link all my stuff there, including chapters on a book I’m working on. Feel free to hit the ‘Like’ button as if you’re an addict.
I also write publish works of fiction on my Bruce Osborne Blog. Feel free to read, follow, or even hate my stuff. I don’t care if people like it, only that they read it.
There are too many movies for me to review in full, so I created a twitter account to give brief opinions on the many movies I view. If you wish to read my smart ass remarks, follow M.O.V.I.E. Reviewer @MutantOpossum.
