Brought to You By Kung-Fu Treachery!

I’m here to give you the wrap to all you jive turkeys on the superflick “Black Dynamite”. The big BD is an ultrahip spoof of the ol’ blaxploitation flicks back in the day. And since I’m too white to talk like that for more than two sentences, I’ll just go on by telling you Dynamite is a very funny film. A great deal of craft and care went into the subtle details in order to make this film one of the most hilariously ridiculous things ever. Many of the great jokes are just lines that make no sense or are just plan ludicrous. For example, there is a line of dialogue as follows: “If your mother were here to see this, she would roll over in her grave.” The action is also badly shot and even includes deliberately made mistakes that would have been edited out of more serious films. It’s not an “it’s so bad it’s good” movie, but rather a “it’s bad on purpose” type of film. The acting is also so bad that you can almost smell the canned ham. This is especially true of the movie’s star Michael Jai White (a.k.a. Spawn bitches!). In roughly eighty percent of the film, White plays Black Dynamite as a stone cold copy of classic blaxploitation characters like Shaft. But whenever he deviates from that, we get a healthy dose of hilarious overacting.

Seriously, I haven’t laughed this hard or this much at a film since “Tropic Thunder”. While BD might appear to be a typical spoof on the surface, it’s actually quite clever most of the film. The comedy isn’t as physical as other spoofs like “Airplane”, but is just as funny through its ridiculous dialogue and acting. The only real downside to BD is that it’s only seventy-five minutes. There is a well done animated credit sequence with clips of outtakes and deleted jokes that round the feature up to ninety minutes, but the actual film is much shorter. I suppose it’s better to be a short film than one that feels padded, but I can easily see myself enjoying an extra twenty minutes of Black Dynamite justice and kung-fu treachery. “Black Dynamite” really is one of those unique gems that only comes around every once and while. I plead with every jive turkey out there. Please oh please see “Black Dynamite”.

Mom's Basement Movie Article about Black Dynamite by Bruce Osborne

Also, in a shameless plug to myself, check out Bruce Osborne on Facebook. I post/link all my stuff there, including chapters on a book I’m working on. Feel free to hit the ‘Like’ button as if you’re an addict.

I also write publish works of fiction on my Bruce Osborne Blog. Feel free to read, follow, or even hate my stuff. I don’t care if people like it, only that they read it.

There are too many movies for me to review in full, so I created a twitter account to give brief opinions on the many movies I view. If you wish to read my smart ass remarks, follow M.O.V.I.E. Reviewer @MutantOpossum.
