Melvin’s Pick of the Day- 5/21/13- The Wonder Room

21 May

ruins terrariumTerrariums are so cool.  A whole world inside of a small jar, sitting on your desk or shelf, telling a story just by being on display.

Tony Larson of The Wonder Room creates amazing terrariums with a sci-fi feel to them.  This Ancient Goddess Ruins terrarium is one of my favorites.

You can find terrariums inspired by Star Wars, classic horror and more.  And the cool thing is, if you don’t find one exactly how you want it, you can create your own!

Ygritte’s Leek and Potato Soup

17 May

wildling soupOne of my favorite characters in Game of Thrones is Ygritte, the wildling kissed by fire.  Fire isn’t the only thing she’s being kissed by, but that’s a story for another day.  Today, Melvin and I are making a dish in homage to the Free Folk, something that would warm them up on their trek through the north.  But what exactly does a wildling have to eat?  We thought a nice and simple leek and potato soup would be something that you could find cooking in a pot in a wildling camp.  So if you want to reach down to your true northern roots and eat something to celebrate the Free Folk, read on!
