You can tell by my hair that I don’t like to be subtle in my appearance. This sometimes applies to the jewelry I wear as well. I like all kinds of jewelry, but occasionally, I want something that makes a statement. Fortunately, if you feel the same way, there are many artists out there that create such pieces. Prepare to be noticed!
I’m a lover of traditional art. I love to see the paint strokes on canvas, the curves in sculpture, and to know that I or another artist created that work with their own hands. But this is the age of technology and computers, and digital art is becoming much more prevalent now. I must admit that I know nothing about digital painting, and perhaps that’s why I used to have more of an affinity towards traditional methods. But after finding so many amazing works of art created digitally, I couldn’t help but have a respect for the medium. I’m quite sure it takes as much skill to work digitally as it does with a physical medium. I believe the medium doesn’t matter; it’s what the artist can create with it.
Below are some of my favorite geeky digital masterpieces. After viewing these, I hope you will have as much respect for the medium as I do.
This painting of Dragon Ball Z’s Majin Buu is downright creepy. Kid Buu was always one of the scarier villains, but seeing him in a realistic portrayal is even worse, but in a really awesome way.
This sexy assassin painting is gorgeous! I love all the gold and black tones used.
I was recently in the coolest video game store (Jay Street Video Games) that I’ve ever been in, in the King of Prussia Mall. The store has games for every console imaginable, and made me want to come home, hook up my Atari 2600, and play the games that I grew up playing.
How many of these do you remember playing for hours at a time?
10 – Pitfall Mittens Knitting Pattern
This item combines two of my passions: knitting and gaming. Pitfall is my Mom’s favorite Atari game, and though I tried, I was still haven’t gotten farther in this game than she has.
9 – Pac-Man Ghost Pendant
My favorite part of this necklace is the googly eyes – they’re a perfect addition to this already awesome pendant.
I love me some Mystery Science Theater 3000, and I want everyone to know it. If you love and miss MST3K too, wait until you see this. Laura from Pica Pica Press has done us all a favor and created this stunning MST3K necklace. And the best part is that you can insert a picture into the pendant as if it is the movie the boys are watching. How great is that?
If you love jewelry, but you’re not as big of a fan of MST3K as me, you still need to take a peek at Laura’s shop. She also designs Space Invader pins, Pac-Man earrings and Triforce necklaces!
