Happy New Year! Well here we are, another year down, and a new year upon us! I’m glad we survived the potential apocalypse on December 21st, and who should we thank for that? Well the Doctor of course!
Urban Industries creates jewelry featuring our beloved Doctor- these sonic screwdriver pendants are fantastic.
So if you want to show your thanks to the Doctor for helping mankind survive another year, check out Urban Industries today!
Do you want to feel good this holiday season? Well, we can help. We have a Mom’s Basement Charity shop that is chock full of geeky awesomeness that would make perfect gifts for your friends and family! Finding the perfect gift will make you feel good, right?
What will also make you feel good is that the items in the charity shop have been donated by our very own basement dwellers, and 100% of the proceeds go to Child’s Play Charity. This charity raises money to provide children’s hospitals with video games, toys, movies and other entertainment for the patients.
For example, this amazing perler bead TARDIS keychain was donated by Deb of Yume’s Pixel Crafts. If you’re looking for the perfect stocking stuffer, I think you just found it!
When I was in college, I did a project for a woman who ran a free health facility. She had traveled the world on Green Peace projects and collected many types of textile art at the same time. She was in love with embroidery, batik, crochet, and pretty much every type of fabric art, and her collection decorated the walls of the large clinic. At the time, I thought that was a very strange thing to collect, but since then I’ve come to appreciate it as the art form it is. I now crochet and have hand-sewn many teddy bears as well.
If you love textile art, you’re in luck. The artists on Etsy and DeviantART have many amigurumi plushies, knit gamer hats, and pop culture samplers. I’ve rounded up the coolest ones I could find for your viewing enjoyment.
Needlefelting is a process where a barbed needle is poked over and over into a wad of wool roving until it is compressed into a solid shape. I found some super cute and geeky needlefelted dolls on Etsy.
This Marceline doll by HeartFeltByCat is awesome! She also offers other custom made Adventure Time dolls including Finn, Flame Princess, and even Tree Trunks!

The more I watch NuWho, the more I realize I far prefer classic. But this week’s song goes out to NuWho fans, particularly those who like the Tennanth Doctor.
The Song: “Song For Ten” by Murray Gold

I wish today was just like every other day
‘Cause today has been the best day
Everything I ever dreamed
So have a good life
Do it for me
Make me so proud
Like you want me to be
Where ever you are
I’m thinking of you oceans apart
I want you to know
The Artist: Murray Gold has been the musical director of Doctor Who since 2005, and he arranges and composes much of the music for the show. He has often been accused of making loud and tasteless music that ruins scenes, but as a trombone player, I must say, MORE LOUD NOISES! In addition to his work on Doctor Who, Gold has also composed for Queer as Folk, Casanova, Kiss of Life, The Second Coming, Shameless, The Devil’s Whore, and many other film, television, radio, and stage projects.

Melvin and I love Doctor Who, but you know who isn’t as much of a fan as I am? My boyfriend. So I decided to pack him a Doctor Who bento box for lunch and see if I could bring him over to the Dalek-side.
This bento is pretty simple, easy and quick to prepare. So if you’re interested in adding a little Wibbly-Wobbly, Timey-Wimey stuff to your lunch, read on! Continue reading
I’m a lover of traditional art. I love to see the paint strokes on canvas, the curves in sculpture, and to know that I or another artist created that work with their own hands. But this is the age of technology and computers, and digital art is becoming much more prevalent now. I must admit that I know nothing about digital painting, and perhaps that’s why I used to have more of an affinity towards traditional methods. But after finding so many amazing works of art created digitally, I couldn’t help but have a respect for the medium. I’m quite sure it takes as much skill to work digitally as it does with a physical medium. I believe the medium doesn’t matter; it’s what the artist can create with it.
Below are some of my favorite geeky digital masterpieces. After viewing these, I hope you will have as much respect for the medium as I do.
Majin Buu by Jonas Skoog
This painting of Dragon Ball Z’s Majin Buu is downright creepy. Kid Buu was always one of the scarier villains, but seeing him in a realistic portrayal is even worse, but in a really awesome way.
Royal Assassin by sakimichan
This sexy assassin painting is gorgeous! I love all the gold and black tones used.
