10 Ways To Show Dad That He’s Super

10 Jun

If you’re anything like me, you grew up thinking that your Dad was Superman. There wasn’t anything that he couldn’t do, and he was truly invincible. I love my Dad so much, and still believe that he’s my Superman. He is always there to swoop in to save the day and seems to be able to accomplish things that others cannot. And though he may not have super powers, he’s still a super hero in my eyes.

Well we only have 1 week until Fathers Day, and let’s honor the Fathers in our lives by showing they just how SUPER they really are!

10 – Superhero Caricature Card
Every Fathers Day gift needs the perfect card. This custom caricature is the perfect way to show that you care, and it adds that special touch that you can’t find with regular greeting cards.

9 – Superhero Coasters
These coasters will remind him every day just how SUPER he is and keep those pesky water rings off his coffee table.

Epic 8-Bit

25 Apr

Pixel Pour by Kelly Goeller

The golden age of 8-bit graphics was ushered in with the likes of the NES and the Sega Master System. So many incredible games were made with such rudimentary graphics.

The graphics in games today have progressed to the point of realism, but nothing can replace the nostalgia we have for those early, pixilated adventures. I know I’m not the only one that feels this way, by the volume of 8-bit art out there. And none of it is the same. 8-bits have been re-imagined into paintings, sculpture, jewelry, and clothes. Old skool never looked so cutting edge.

Heart Pendant 8bit Sterling Silver by SketchyStories

Does New York City always have to be cooler than everywhere else? Thanks to Kelly Goeller, one half of the animation studio Kneeon, the street installation above makes even the drain pipes in NY look awesome.

You’ll never worry about running out of hearts on your next adventure with this pixel heart necklace by SketchyStories. It’s made of solid sterling silver and the surface is faceted to emulated that 8-bit look.

Earth Day Top 10

22 Apr

Today is Earth Day, so my mind is focusing on ways that we can preserve what we have. And while preparing for this piece, I enjoyed looking through Etsy for unique recycled items. This is a collection of the best of what I found.

Please, do your part, and recycle.

10 – Floppy Disk Metal Cover Necklace
As soon as I saw this, I started to smile. This is a great pendant/necklace and at an even better price.

9 – Record Bookends
Rock & Roll on your office shelf. Let’s face it, we can’t have our music playing as often we would like. In the quiet, reflect upon these for musical inspiration.

Tie me up in your love

6 Sep

There something about neckties, I’ve never been sure what it was, but I’ve always loved them! When I was a youngster I would wear a collared shirt and tie under a too-big v neck sweatshirt to school and just thought I was the cat pajamas. Ten years later my love for ties hasn’t changed, but they way I wear them has.

Fashion these days is obsessed with the retro and the ironic, and if you can do both at once, consider yourself a style star! The neck tie first came into fashion around 1618, but neckties as we know them didn’t came into being until the industrial revolution, but they’ve been hanging around necks consistently since then. These days ties aren’t just for necks, or for just men.

Try paring a tie with your favorite high waisted skirt, or dress by tying it around your waist, or even stitching it into a simple belt. Or lie it loosely around your neck, or drape over your shoulders, with a plain tee or neutral dress, so it’s more a necklace than a necktie.

If you’re a DIY fashionista neckties can be fashioned in some beautiful skirts, dresses, purses, or hair accessories! Can you say bow tie hair bow? I sure can! The possibilities are as endless are you imagination (well, and your sewing ability)

By picking the right tie you can add a great pop of color to any outfit. Dressing it up, or bring in a funky, fun loving touch, you just can’t go wrong! No matter your style, there is not excuse to have have at least a few ties in your closet. I’m sure you’ll be more than surprised at how useful, and fun, they can really be!
